5 Reasons the Kenai Peninsula Is the Perfect Summer Vacation Destination

Whether you’ve always wanted to visit, or you’re simply ready for an adventure in the Alaskan wilderness, the Kenai Peninsula is a great choice for your next summer vacation.

From larger-than-life glaciers that will take your breath away, to the peace and relaxation of just getting away from it all, there is something about spending your vacation in a cozy Kenai River rental cabin. Our cabins close to Soldotna are still secluded enough from the hustle and bustle of city life to enjoy the natural beauty that is the Kenai Peninsula.  Here are just five reasons why staying in our cabins in Soldotna, AK is a vacation experience that you won’t want to miss!

Best Fishing In The World

The Kenai River is widely known as one of the best places in the world for fishing large salmon. King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, and Silver Salmon swim in the aquamarine waters. Anglers from all over the world say this river is one of the most beautiful they’ve ever seen.

Guided fishing trips are a great option if you want to take your shot at trying to catch one of the river’s famously large salmon! The summer weather often warms the water to around 60˚ F.  With the sun glimmering off the crystal-clear water, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon of fishing or simply enjoying nature.

If you prefer open-water fishing, the Cook Inlet is great spot to catch a Halibut or Ling Cod. Known to be as heavy as a couple hundred pounds, catching one of these flat, white fish is a massive feat!  And there are numerous experienced and knowledgeable captains to sail with, you’re guaranteed a safe and exciting adventure.

Wonderful Local Wildlife

The Kenai Peninsula is a great place to enjoy the various forms of wildlife that Alaska has to offer, including black bears and grizzly bears!  Bear viewing tours are one of the most popular activities for visitors, and for good reason.  Very few places on earth offer you the chance to safely watch an Alaskan bear up close as it catches salmon, pads around the water, or warms itself under the golden Kenai sun.

Explorable Trails and Wilderness Tours

When you grab one of our Kenai vacation rental cabins, you’re near several trails perfect for hiking and exploring.  Skilled wildlife guides can show you around the navigable network of trails and help you pick the perfect trail for your skill and endurance level.  You can spend an afternoon or morning adventuring in the beautiful Alaskan forest trails and still be back at your comfortable Soldotna lodgings in time to relax and enjoy an evening by the campfire.

Breath-Taking Scenery

With gorgeous views of the purple Kenai mountains topped with sugar-white snow even in the summer, the surprisingly delicate native flora and fauna, and the chance that a moose will be visible from your cabin, there’s always a stunning view in Kenai.

Relaxing Cabin Atmosphere

When you finish your day’s adventures, you can come back to a comfortable and furnished cabin, but still feel like you’re away from it all!  Better than tent camping, but still giving you the Alaska outdoor feeling, cabins come with traditional local décor, spacious kitchen counter with appliances, private bathroom with full tub and shower, and coin-operated laundry facilities.  Spend your mornings on your cabin’s secluded deck drinking coffee, your days off on adventures and evenings at the cabin relaxing, playing board games or roasting marshmallows by the fire pit as the summer sky is clear and star-filled above you!

No matter what activities you choose, the Kenai Peninsula is definitely a bucket list summer vacation destination you can’t miss!
